Mass Effect 3: My Shepard by ultima0chaotic Mass Effect 3: My Shepard by ultima0chaotic
EDIT: Just retouched on a few things and added the wounds and blood at the appropriate places because of injuries inflicted on by Harbinger.

Beasting Shepard, Earth-born War-hero. Fearless, loyal, relentless, unyielding and always sticking through with his principles and what he believes truly good.

I am going to miss this series immensely as I thought the entire series executed it perfectly from 1 through 3....except the ending of the third. By now many of you have probably heard everything about how bad it was and believe me I'm not too happy myself. But I'm not here to bash it.

Despite the questionable finale to the Commander Shepard saga, the ending still tugged at all the Mass Effect's fan's heart. A true testament to what Bioware has accomplished in getting the players to care so deeply for the character they chose to be and those he interacted with. I don't even really care about the shooting part of it, the story really sucked me in and I never turned back. I wish it wasn't over so soon.

Despite the controversy, in all honesty and the empty void that takes over you once you finish following Shepard to the very end, it's been a pleasure.

Fuck it hurts. It's like something in me died. I haven't blinked in 1 minute. I think I might be going through some post ME depression.

But anyway, this is him finally at peace, once again putting himself aside for everyone else. (This was the first ending I got after the first play through) Rest easy commander. It's been an honor to fight at your side.

P.S. I hope the Shepard timeline or saga isn't truly over :( Also I didn't mean to spoil it for you who viewed it. Sorry.

Heroes fall and People weep, be it friends, enemies or strangers. But don't worry, don't be sad ever, there will always be a hero to take up the mantle one day, it may not be immediately but eventually. We may have transient flesh, but our souls will see Heroes rise and fall till the end of time. Video games are the Fables of the Modern Era, they teach morals in some fashions if the developer has got the mind to entertain and leave something to your mind.

gratz, you condemnded everyone in the universe to an unending life of torment under the thrall of a god machine, stripped away their identities and minds, and probably brought about a reign of doom for every other galaxy as the forces of our own attempt to assimilate them into the group mind, forcing a peace onto them they never chose.

resistance is futile

killed yourself, to bring about a great doom for all of the universe . . . horay

Love it. Really has the feel of the game. Also I really love the way you colored the picture. I'm not really good with describing what or why I like a picture since I'm not an artist. But I know what I like.

Awww. I really love this art piece. Synthesis, looks like. This is totally just pure Commander Shepard in all his badassness. The look on his face says it all-- content with the end, knowing his sacrifice will better the future of others. Love this. Very moving. Great job. :)

synthesis

the act of doing absolutely jack

making people part robot doesnt prevent them from creating robots, nor does it change their perspective and personality . . .

logically, the reapers felt a slight tingle, and continued their slaughter of the galaxy

Really nice work. I'm guessing you picked the Synthesis one, eh?

And what you wrote, I full-heartedly agree with you. I'm in post-ME depression myself. I just feel so sad about finishing such an amazing series. I put so much effort into the universe and the characters, I felt myself drawn into it all. The characters weren't just characters, they felt like real friends. Comrades. And now they're all gone. It's over. Shepard's adventure came to an end (and I didn't really like how it ended, either). It hurts. D:

We may never get to see Garrus, Wrex, Joker, Tali, Liara and others ever again. 3:

I think that the game was amazing, despite the people grieving over the endings, I love the series and the characters. I'm glad that I saw the series to the end, I'll miss playing the series and I'll miss the interaction. I hope that the series keeps going and I hope that I can still have the joy of playing as Shepard once more.

Chose the same ending first time as well. Ahhh, haven't played much videogames afterwards, agree that the ending made something die in me as well. Well here's to hoping that Bioware fixes it with the ending dlc they announced.

I liked the synthesis ending, if one interprets it positively, it's like Shepard is rewarding every species that came to fight with him/her. There are a lot of benefits. But at the same time, think of it negatively and you've basically done the Reaper's job for them.

Problem is, I wanted Shepard to speak to Ash one last time... T.T

I chose this ending too. "Space magic" or not, I felt like it made more sense than the other two options, and I couldn't choose the Destruction option because of how hard she'd worked to get the perfect result on Rannoch. Or, as near to perfect as possible. Peace and freedom is the sort of thing she'd go for, which is why I chose Synthesis.

I like that even though you dislike the ending (as I do), you still recognise that the other two games, and the vast majority of ME3 are just magnificent. It's tiring when people say that the ending ruined all of Mass Effect for them, forever.

I choose the synthesis ending as well. I did nearly cry during this. I had no idea on the other endings when I saw it. To me this is the best ending there could have been for the game.

So what exactly were your own reasons for choosing this ending.

By the way the choice took me hours to decide, and I almost went with Synthesis as well, but at the last step I turned back and chose to destroy.

Honestly..at first it was a mistake. I was just moving around and wanted to see the green light closer and had no idea it would trigger a cut scene wherein Shepard would jump to his death sacrificing himself for the greater good.

In retrospect though, if the endings aren't going to get any treatment from EA Bioware then I think this is the best choice where he, in his mind, believes he's picking the choice which would benefit all beings in the Milky Way.

Also he was at peace and while it pains my heart to see Shepard passing on, he had that subtle smile on his face knowing he did it for all his allies, friends and everyone else in the galaxy.

Yeah I almost did that too but turned back at the last minute. You can't just force peace through some easy means. Organics and Synthetics must learn to work together and evolve on their own terms, not just some easy quick fix solution that's just what the Reapers do already.

Well if we end up getting philosophical here, peace never lasts in any realistic situation. There's always a period of relative peace then period of total war. That's just the way it is, in which case then the red or blue ending could be completely justified.

:iconfreelancerraiko:
freelancerraiko Featured By Owner Mar 20, 2012
Blue would mean the Reapers would just come back. With the Red ending the future was up to them, and as Legion showed, peace between organics and synthetics is possible and can be achieved.

For a short time. Things repeat. That's why the reapers were there in the first place. These cycles are unavoidable. Reapers try to maintain that balance but humans and every other race says they can do it themselves. Thus the rebellions against the reapers. Plus red meant kill all synthetics. But again they can just reinvent synthetics then eventually the synthetics turn on their creators. That's just how it is. Murphy's law. Just do what you can to maintain balance.

I feel like most critique about the endings comes from not understanding the cycle philosophy, thank you :)

But Legion and Shepard proved otherwise, that's why I knew that peace could be achieved, it just needs a lot of work.

Love this pic. It really resonates with the sort of sacrifice, full of regret and peace in equal measures, that I got from the ending.

MASS EFFECT 3 SPOILERS COMING UP!!!

I don't see how the ending warrants the kind of hate it seems to attract. Personally, I loved the whole journey including the ending, though I would have liked an epilogue. It actually felt amazingly tragic; my Shepherd was a ruthless man'o'war, knowing nothing but war, but after being forced to kill some of his closest friends for the sake of peace, lost his taste for it, hated himself for it. Self-sacrifice to achieve synthesis, giving all life, synthetic and organic, a chance to live in peace and harmony, something he didn't feel he himself deserved after what he had done, was a welcome gift and the only way to atone for the sins he had felt forced to make. So he leapt to his end, his only regret the one soul he had to leave behind; Miranda.

Yeah, I got into that game up to my eyeballs :p.

This is exactly how my Shepard went out. I avoided the internet like the plague so I wouldn't see spoilers, but I kept hearing about how terrible the endings were so I pushed through my first play-through... CRIED MY EYES OUT (that's right, over pixels, don't hate :x) . I agree with you on the Shepard saga, this series has been an exceptional ride. I'm torn that it's over and how Bioware ended it. But who knows, maybe Bioware will reconsider the void they left in every fan of Mass Effect and fix that MIND F***ING ENDING.

I did the exact same ending and after sitting through it all, my first thought was: (Slowly Clapping) "Well done Bioware, This took some guts on your part."

Now as for the art at hand, I love it, It keeps reminding me at that moment in the ending as he/she accepts the option at hand and lets go. It brings up the emotion I felt when I saw the cinematic. Thank you, truly.

Lovely pic really shows change in in his skin. I also choose the middle ending, I refuse to spit on Legion's sacrifice to The Geth and EDI's existence. It seemed to renegade, plus controlling The Reapers for me would mean I lose everything that made my Shepard's personality. The third just seemed like the better equalizer. Now did I like it? No, not really because I lose Tali :'( and lack of an epilogue on the status on the other species. But as Spock would say "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". It was nice to see Joker and EDI together though.
